A watch is a mechanical timepiece, and like all things mechanical, it needs to be maintained.
The lubricants used to keep your watch running correctly will deteriorate with use and age and if not serviced and oiled regularly will cause the watch to run dry and parts to wear which will affect reliability.
The starting point for any servicing is an assessment of the watch and the preparation of a quote. Our watch makers will begin by examining the case and bracelet to assess wear and damage. The watch is then opened and the movement is checked for worn or broken parts and dirt. A list of the required parts is prepared and a quote drawn up.
We can carry out a complete service to restore your watch to, or close to, its original standards. The movement is disassembled, cleaned, rebuilt and lubricated. We can also re-finish the watch case to make it look near new again. This entails taking the case apart, ultrasonic cleaning and drying and then polishing and graining the case to the original specification. Replacing seals and the glass will ensure the watch will be water resistant when applicable. The bracelet is also cleaned and checked and worn pins are replaced before the bracelet is re-finished. The result of all of this careful attention is a watch that looks as good as the day you bought it and is ready to serve you well for many years to come.
At Watch Tech a complete watch service includes:
- Complete disassembly of the timepiece
- The hands and dial are removed
- All moving parts are disassembled
- All parts are then inspected and cleaned to remove old lubricant
- Replacement of all worn or damaged parts with new parts
- The watch is then reassembled
- Lubrication and regulation of the movement is performed
- Installation of the dial and hands
- Re-casing the movement and pressure testing to model specifications
When completed, a functional test is performed for 3-5 days to ensure the watch is keeping time. As we offer a 12 month guarantee on our work, we do not undertake ‘part repairs’ if our watch makers determine that a service is required.
